They will bleed them dry before they say anything. Even Damon said in the film, "The rule is this: You spot a man's tell, you don't say a %^&*ing word." THAT is real-world poker, as no grinder or pro would tip their opponent off over their tell(s). The film had to somehow teach the concept of identifying "tells" to its audience. I was hoping that any of you experienced poker players/fans of Rounders might be able to explain this. Maybe I am not watching closely enough, or don't understand poker well enough, or maybe the movie is just dumbing-down the concept of recognizing another player's tell. Teddy was chewing on the Oreos from the opening scene where he take all of Mike's money. But that seems like such a blatantly obvious tell for a guy of Mike's skill in reading people to miss for so long. In his final showdown with Teddy KGB, Mike comes to the realization about Teddy's tell with the Oreos. The whole movie goes out of its way to set up just how good Matt Damon's character Mike is at reading other players, from comments about that skill making him a good lawyer to dazzling the judges at their private card game to his take down of Johnny Chan in Atlantic City. I do love this movie, but I am just a casual poker player at best, so maybe I am missing something really obvious. Seeing this thread resurrected has brought up a question I always had about this movie, and seeing that there are some actual poker players on here, now seems like a good time to ask.
